CIFAC’s Role in the Charter City Fight

The next big issue for the public works construction industry, contractors and unions alike, is to prevent the movement by cities to adopt or amend charters to exempt themselves from not only prevailing wages but also from California’s competitive bidding laws.

Our position is clear – putting the work out to bid is good for the industry and good for the public.  The industry has the expertise and guarantees its work, and the public finds out how much the job is worth on the open market rather than allowing cities to hide administrative and overhead costs to portray projects as far less expensive than the real cost to the public.
